Warner Bros. Cancels DC Films’ New Gods and The Trench

There’s been a shake up in DC Extended Universe. As reported by Variety, director Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of Jack Kirby’s New Gods is not going forward. Additionally, the James Wan-produced Aquaman spinoff, The Trench, has also been cancelled.

“As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including ‘New Gods’ and ‘The Trench’ will not be moving forward,” said a Warner Bros. spokesman in a statement. “We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future.”

DuVernay hinted at the decision earlier today when she responded to a tweet by Ray Porter, the actor who portrayed Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Porter told Snyder’s fans to stop harassing DuVernay about their desire to restore the Snyderverse.

It’s now unclear when or if the New Gods will be officially introduced in the DCEU. Technically, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is still out of continuity. But the theatrical release of Justice League did offer some hints about Darkseid and the other New Gods.
