WandaVision Episode 8 – What Did You Think?!

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for WandaVision episode 8!

“It’s time for some real reruns” on this week’s WandaVision. Agatha Harkness has revealed herself, and she’s demanding answers from Wanda Maximoff. Disney+ has premiered the eighth episode of WandaVision, and we want to  know what the Superhero Hype community thinks about it!

The episode opens with a flashback to Salem in 1693, as Agatha is bound by her coven of witches for using dark magic. However, Agatha quickly turns the tables on the coven, including her mother, and drains their life force into herself. In the present, Wanda discovers that she has no power in Agatha’s basement. Agatha also seems genuinely surprised that Wanda doesn’t know the basics of magic, and she forces Wanda to relive some of her most painful memories.

Agatha and Wanda see the Maximoff family in their tiny apartment as they share young Wanda’s undying devotion for American sitcoms. This adds some context to Avengers: Age of Ultron, as the Maximoff parents are killed while Wanda and Pietro’s lives are threatened by an unexploded Stark Industries weapon. Agatha theorizes that Wanda reflexively cast a probability hex on the bomb to keep it from detonating. In another memory, Wanda volunteers for a Hydra experiment that exposes her to the Mind Stone. Wanda seemingly sees an apparition of her future self before unlocking her powers.

Agatha brings Wanda forward to yet another memory, where she and Vision bond over an episode of Malcolm in the Middle. Vision tries to get Wanda to open up about her grief, but she withholds that part of herself. In a much more recent flashback, Wanda goes to S.W.O.R.D. headquarters to reclaim Vision’s body and bury him. We also discover that Director Hayward lied about what Wanda did there. Wanda did force her way in to see Vision’s disassembled body. But she left his corpse behind because she didn’t feel his presence there.

Out of grief, Wanda drove away to Westview, where she and Vision had purchased a place to live. Wanda gives into her feelings and magically creates a house on the empty lot before resurrecting Vision out of thin air. She also expands her false sitcom world to the edge of Westview’s borders. Back in the present, Wanda runs out of Agatha’s house and finds the witch holding her children, Billy and Thomas, captive. Agatha says that Wanda doesn’t realize how dangerous she is. She also adds “this is Chaos Magic, Wanda, and that makes you the Scarlet Witch.”

In the mid-credits scene, Hayward and his  S.W.O.R.D. agents use Wanda’s chaos magic to reanimate Vision’s original body. However, this Vision is now an unearthly white.

WandaVision‘s first eight episodes are on Disney+. The ninth episode will debut on Friday, March 5.
