Netflix Cancels Cursed After One Season

It’s been almost a full year since Netflix debuted the first season of Cursed, based on Tom Wheeler and Frank Miller’s graphic novel of the same name. Unfortunately, this new twist on Arthurian legend won’t be coming back for more. According to Deadline, Netflix has elected not to renew the show for another season.

The series re-imagined the story of King Arthur through the point of view of Nimue (played by 13 Reasons Why breakout Katherine Langford), a young woman with supernatural abilities who’s destined to become the Lady of the Lake. Nimue’s magical powers make her an outcast in her village. But when her community is attacked by invaders, her mother presents her with the Sword of Power and tells her to bring it to the wizard Merlin. Throughout Nimue’s quest, she encounters several other Arthurian staples, including Lancelot, King Uther, and Arthur himself.

In addition to writing and illustrating the original graphic novel, Wheeler and Miller also created the TV series. However, the book’s success didn’t exactly translate well to the small screen. The show received mixed reviews after it premiered last summer. But given the first season’s cliffhanger ending, the producers definitely had ideas for the series’ future.

Cursed also starred Devon Terrell as Arthur, Gustaf Skarsgard as Merlin, Daniel Sharman as Lancelot, and Sebastian Armesto as King Uther. Now that the series has been cancelled, all of the actors have been released from their commitments to pursue other jobs.
