Eternals’ Kit Harington Teases Black Knight’s Future in the MCU

Eternals’ Kit Harington Teases Black Knight’s Future in the MCU

In addition to the titular immortals, Eternals will also bring Kit Harington into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dane Whitman, a.k.a. The Black Knight. Kevin Feige previously teased that Harington would have a much larger role to play in the MCU following his introduction in November’s Phase Four entry. And as the film’s release date draws closer, Harington continues to speculate on his character’s future.

Harington discussed his Eternals appearance during a recent interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar+). When asked if his role signals bigger things to come, he suggested that Marvel Studios has plans for Dane’s Black Knight persona.

“I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not,” said Harington. “I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!”

Another major point of interest with Eternals concerns Dane’s relationship with Gemma Chan’s Sersi. In the comics, the two heroes are romantically involved. But some of the film’s trailers have hinted that in this incarnation, Sersi’s heart belongs to Ikaris, played by Harington’s former Game of Thrones co-star Richard Madden. This has led many fans to theorize that a love triangle will form between these three characters. Unfortunately, Harington isn’t revealing any details.

“I think there’s been a few things said about that in the press,” added Harington. “I wouldn’t say that a lot of it is accurate. But he has a connection with Sersi, as does Richard’s character.”

Eternals hits theaters on November 5.
