Anthony Ramos May Join Steven Caple Jr.’s Transformers Movie
Back in November, Paramount finally got the ball rolling on their next Transformers film by hiring Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. to helm a brand new adventure starring the robots in disguise. Now, the movie may have found its leading man. Collider broke the story that actor and singer Anthony Ramos is in talks to headline Caple’s film.
According to Collider’s sources, Ramos’ character will be a “flawed and vulnerable hero who has made mistakes in his life,” which sounds pretty standard for a human Transformers protagonist. Like others before him, Ramos will also fight alongside Optimus Prime. Naturally, the Autobots’ leader will play a vital role in helping his character atone for his past. The film’s story comes from Joby Harold, the head writer for Lucasfilm’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Deadline is also reporting that Ramos will soon have screen and chemistry tests with potential female co-stars. Apparently, the shortlist for this role includes Kiki Layne and Dominque Fishback.
Ramos was part of the original Broadway cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, as both John Laurens and Philip Hamilton. Since then, he’s booked himself a variety of different roles. In 2019, he appeared in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He also starred on Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It as Mars Blackmon, the character played by Spike Lee in his 1986 feature debut. Ramos will next appear in the movie version of another Miranda musical, In the Heights. That film hits theaters and HBO Max in June.
Caple’s film isn’t the only new Transformers movie in the works. A few weeks ago, Paramount also recruited Angel Manuel Soto to develop his own standalone franchise entry. Additionally, Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley is working on an animated Transformers prequel film.
