Melissa Benoist congratulated Sasha Calle who was announced on Friday as Supergirl for Ezra Miller’s The Flash.

On Friday, The Flash director Andy Muschetti surprised DC fans on social media by announcing Sasha Calle as Supergirl for the upcoming DC film. Calle will become the fourth actress to play Supergirl in live-action, previously played by Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort, and Melissa Benoist. While it was never reported Supergirl would appear in The Flash, it’s been known that Warner Bros. has been developing a solo project centered on Kara Zor-El.

The announcement of a new Supergirl comes as Melissa Benoist’s series on The CW approaches its end with season six. The upcoming solo film will be inspired by the Flashpoint comic storyline which followed The Flash as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles. It is currently unknown how much inspiration the upcoming Ezra Miller film will take from the comic.

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle and Billy Crudup.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on June 3rd, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, the Melissa Benoist series, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more exclusive video content.
