Keanu Reeves Confronts His Past In ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ Clip

A brand new clip from The Matrix Resurrections finds Keanu Reeves as Neo confronting his past.

The highly-anticipated sci-fi sequel The Matrix Resurrections is set to premiere in less than two weeks, and an official clip featuring Keanu Reeves as Neo officially dropped during The Game Awards 2021, taking us down a specific nostalgic road.

In this clip, Keanu Reeves’ Neo is guided by Bugs (Jessica Henwick), as they walk through a doorway into a train in Tokyo, Japan. They then walk into another room in which we see footage from the iconic scene in the original 1999 film in which Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) introduces Neo to the Red Pill and the Blue Pill. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays Morpheus in this film also makes an appearance in the clip.

It appears that Lana Wachowski approached the sequel through a distinctly meta narrative. The fact that we are seeing actual footage from the original 1999 film she directed along with her sister Lilly Wachowski projected onto a wall in which Keanu Reeves walks through showcases something quite peculiar and stands out from many other franchises that revisit their pasts.

Here is the synopsis:

In a world of two realities—everyday life and what lies behind it—Thomas Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. Choice, while an illusion, is still the only way in or out of the Matrix, which is stronger, more secure and more dangerous than ever before.

Directed by Lana Wachowski from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, the film stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Eréndira Ibarra, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The Matrix Resurrections is currently set to hit theaters and HBO Max on December 22, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and Keanu Reeves’ film projects and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
