J. K. Simmons In Talks To Reprise Commissioner Gordon Role In ‘Batgirl’

J. K. Simmons is in negotiations to return to the DCEU as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Batgirl film.

With the announcement that In The Heights star Leslie Grace is set to play Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl in the upcoming solo film focusing on the character, fans really wanted to know who would play Commissioner Gordon. Not many details are currently known about the movie and it wasn’t clarified if this exists in the larger DC Extended Universe so it was assumed that we would get a completely different version of the character. Now we know for sure that that isn’t the case.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, J. K. Simmons is in talks to reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Leslie Grace-led Batgirl solo film, making it clear that Batgirl will indeed take place in the DC Extended Universe. Simmons is also set to reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the upcoming Marvel Studios-produced film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script.

The Batgirl movie is expected to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. Barbara was last seen in a live-action feature film in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, with Alicia Silverstone playing the iconic DC Comics character.

The next Gotham City-based movie is The Batman, which is shrouded in secrecy. We know that the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding HBO Max’s Batgirl and future of DC Films. Also, make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
