Superman actor Henry Cavill finally commented on the campaign to release the Zack Snyder Cut of Justice League.
Since Justice League debuted in theaters to disappointing reviews and box office figures, fans have been calling on Warner Bros. to release the Zack Snyder cut of the film, which recently gained support from a number of actors who appeared in it. However, Superman actor Henry Cavill has been relatively quiet on his thoughts regarding the Zack Snyder Cut movement ever since Justice League fans started the campaign.
During an interview with Kevin McCarthy to promote his upcoming Netflix series The Witcher, Henry Cavill finally addressed the campaign and noted that he has not seen any Zack Snyder cut of Justice League nor is he aware of such an edition even existing, to begin with. Furthermore, Henry Cavill added that he would prefer to focus on the future of Superman as opposed to dwelling on the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League:
“I have not seen any Snyder cut. I don’t know if there’s anything that exists that is a Snyder cut. I’m sure there’s footage out there which has probably been pieced together over the years. I’m always interested to see how that stuff turns out, but that is very much a chapter of my past. I would rather talk about what is gonna happen in the future. The future of Superman, how I can express that character from the comic books, which ties in nicely to Man of Steel. I really like that movie and I’d like to be able to tell the story where it was left at that point.”
When asked about the possibility of seeing the story Zack Snyder started with Man of Steel continue one day, Henry Cavill simply replied, “I can tell you nothing.” However, Henry Cavill added that comparisons can be made between Superman and The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia, whom he considers to be a combination of the Man of Steel and Batman:
“Geralt of Rivia is almost like a blend of Superman and Batman. He’s bigger, stronger, faster than your average person. But he’s also exceptionally good at detective work and he was orphaned, and abandoned, and he’s grown up in incredibly harsh environments, and trained exceptionally hard. And so, if you were to take those two characters and blend them toegether and then put them in a fantasy/medieval setting, then you’d probably get someone like Geralt of Rivia. But he’s got more of an external Batman personality and an internal Superman heart.”
Henry Cavill’s future as Superman is currently in doubt amid reports on contentious contract negotiations and Warner Bros. and DC planning to focus their efforts on introducing Supergirl. While his planned Superman cameo in Zachary Levi’s Shazam! was cut after negotiations to reprise his role fell through, Henry Cavill recently stated that he has not given up on playing the character.
