Pixar’s latest film Onward has kept its plot details relatively under wraps since its official announcement, but the first theatrical trailer reveals the upcoming animated film’s premise in full.
The trailer reveals Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as elven brothers Ian and Barley, who receive a magic staff to restore their deceased father. While conjuring their dad, the spell is interrupted by the explosive feedback. As a result, only the bottom half of their father appears, perfectly mobile and sentient without its top half. The trailer and teaser poster for the film are below.
The brothers’ dynamic is quickly established in the trailer. Pratt’s Barley is the oafish, reckless one, while Holland’s Ian is generally more timid and unsure of himself. The siblings set out with their dad’s legs to reunite him with the rest of his body.
Onward was formally announced this past December. Its cast and description herald a suburban fantasy comedy focused on the relationship between brothers as its emotional core.
Written and directed by Dan Scanlon, Onward stars Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. It opens in theaters on March 6, 2020.
